Kiwi hooker wanted to break cousin's leg

New Zealand hooker Issac Luke admits he deliberately tried to break the leg of England half-back and cousin Rangi Chase during a Four Nations game on November 12.

New Zealand hooker Issac Luke has admitted that he wanted to break cousin Rangi Chase's leg in the recent Four Nations.

Luke received a two-game ban for deliberately twisting Kiwi-born Chase's ankle in the defeat to England on November 12.

Now back in Australia where he plays his rugby for South Sydney, Luke made the stunning admission that he wanted to hurt Chase because of his decision to switch allegiance to England.

"I just saw red," Luke told the Sydney Morning Herald. "A lot of the legends that played in the black and white jersey, they wanted blood.

"I guess that's the mentality us young ones have taken on board. We had a talk the night before about what the jersey meant and that must have come out.

"When you come up against your family you want to outplay them. I didn't outplay him. I tried to break his leg. It was the wrong thing to do."

England progressed to last night's final where they lost convincingly to Australia.
