Yorkshire Carnegie target promotion to Aviva Premiership with Kevin Sinfield

Yorkshire Carnegie executive president Sir Ian McGeechan wants the club to regain their place in the Aviva Premiership after announcing the capture of Kevin Sinfield.

Yorkshire Carnegie have targeted promotion from the Greene King IPA Championship to the Aviva Premiership following their acquisition of rugby league great Kevin Sinfield today.

It was announced that Leeds Rhinos captain Sinfield, 34, would switch rugby codes to play for union side Carnegie from the end of the Super League season later this year.

Speaking at a joint Carnegie-Rhinos press conference today, Carnegie executive president Sir Ian McGeechan said: "I have admired Kevin Sinfield as both a player and an individual for many years.

"His professionalism, attitude and commitment are top class. I am sure he will be a great addition to our squad for next season and his goal-kicking record speaks for itself.

"The signing of Kevin Sinfield and the recent appointment of Bryan Redpath as head coach are clear indications of the ambition of our new management and owners. We look forward to having Kevin on board from November for our challenge to regain our place in the Aviva Premiership."

Yorkshire are currently sixth in the Championship table after 19 games of the season.
