Olympic Stadium on Rugby World Cup stadium shortlist

The Olympic Stadium is among 17 stadiums shortlisted as possible venues for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The Olympic Stadium has been named on a 17-strong shortlist of potential venues for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The British Olympic Association stated prior to this summer's Games that they intended to utilise the stadium for other major sporting events.

Five Premier League football grounds have also made the shortlist, which includes just three rugby-specific venues.

Manchester United's Old Trafford is joined by the home grounds of Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Southampton and Sunderland, while seven Football League stadiums are also on the list.

Wembley, the Millenium Stadium and Twickenham have all been selected, with the latter expected to host the final.

Full shortlist: Amex Stadium, Ashton Gate, Elland Road, King Power Stadium, Kingsholm, Millennium Stadium, Olympic Stadium, Old Trafford, Pride Park, Ricoh Arena, Sports Direct Arena, St. Mary's Stadium, Stadium MK, Stadium of Light, Twickenham, Villa Park, Wembley.
