All Blacks coach Graham Henry has named the side that will kick off their World Cup campaign against Tonga on Friday (September 9).

The side shows nine changes to that which was defeated 25-20 by Australia in the Tri-Nations last month.

Andrew Hore, Owen Franks and Tony Woodcock team up in the front row, despite the latter aggravating an old hamstring problem in training.

Brad Thorn and Ali Williams pair up at lock, supported by loose forwards Jerome Kaino and captain Richie McCaw, who will win his 99th cap for his country.

Wellington forward Victor Vito comes in at number eight, covering for the injured Kieran Read.

Jimmy Cowan replaces Piri Weepu at scrum-half and partners talisman fly-half Daniel Carter for their 25th Test together.

Richard Kahui and Isaia Toeava will start on the wings, while Ma’a Nonu moves over to outside centre to accommodate rugby league convert Sonny Bill Williams at inside centre.

Up-and-comer Israel Dagg replaces veteran All Black Mils Muliaina at fullback, winning his seventh cap in the process.

"There is real competition in a number of positions, at fullback and on the wings and other positions as well, and the selection of the starting XV reflects that," Graham Henry said. "Those players selected have now been given the opportunity which is exciting and they will all look to make the most of their chance.

"Everyone in the All Blacks squad is excited by what lies ahead and we have also been humbled by the fantastic support we have been receiving."

New Zealand: Israel Dagg, Richard Kahui, Ma'a Nonu, Sonny Bill Williams, Isaia Toeava, Daniel Carter, Jimmy Cowan, Tony Woodcock, Andrew Hore, Owen Franks, Brad Thorn, Ali Williams, Jerome Kaino, Richie McCaw (C), Victor Vito.

Replacements: Corey Flynn, Ben Franks, Anthony Boric, Sam Whitelock, Piri Weepu, Colin Slade, Cory Jane.
