Tom Slingsby has won Australia's second gold medal at the London Olympics after coming through the medal race in the men's laser to take first overall.
Slingsby held a comfortable lead after the first 10 races, enough that even his ninth place in the medal race meant he was the clear winner.
The battle was for the final two medals, with Pavlos Kontides of Cyprus holding on to silver, despite his 10th place today. The silver earned by Kontides was Cyprus' first ever Olympic medal.
It was up to Slingsby to ensure Kontides finished behind him or just ahead and the Australian did enough to keep the Cypriot behind him all race.
The race for bronze was between Rasmus Mygren of Sweden and Tonci Stipanovic of Croatia, with the Swede doing well to move up from 10th to fourth before blocking the Croatian and keeping him behind.
Defending champion of Team GB Paul Goodison was out of medal contention before today's medal race but restored some pride today by finishing third.
