Mark Selby dedicated his maiden World Championship victory to his late father on Monday night, and admitted that he always wanted to win the title in his memory.
'The Jester from Leicester' came from five frames down to beat five-time champion and 2013 winner Ronnie O'Sullivan 18-14 at The Crucible in Sheffield.
Selby reflected on how satisfying it was to overcome the hot favourite for the tournament in the final, despite not playing his best and having to grind out a result.
"It's not really sunk in but my father passed away when I was 16 and I always said I wanted to win the world title for him," he told reporters.
"I dug in; I did not play pretty snooker early on but as it wore on I did well. There's no better way than beating Ronnie in the final."
Selby's victory took him back to the top of the world rankings.
