Team England squash player Nick Matthew has admitted that it was a "tough" match against Guernsey competitor and training partner Chris Simpson in the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Games.
Matthew made light work on the scoreboard with a 3-0 win over Simpson, but Matthew said that it was as good as he had seen his friend play.
"It was incredibly tough, Chris was so desperate to do well and I could feel that pride in playing for Guernsey oozing out of him," he told Team England.
"He's a regular training partner of mine but I don't think I've ever seen him play that well. He was inspired at times and getting everything back – his court coverage was phenomenal.
"It was very, very tough to break him down, but I was pleased with the run out, and I'm glad it didn't go to four or five games."
Matthew will take on Peter Barker on Sunday.
