Ryan Lochte has broken his second world record in as many days at the World Short-Course Championships in Istanbul.
Lochte clocked a time of 50.71s in the 100m individual medley, shaving five hundredths of a second off the old record.
The time follows Lochte's world record in the 200m individual medley yesterday, and the 28-year-old admitted that he went into the race hoping to break the record.
"I knew I had to give it 110% tonight because tomorrow I have the 200 backstroke right before it so I knew if I had any shot of going for the world record it had to be tonight so that is what I wanted to do," he said.
"It's the fans - they are the ones that push me. I can hear them during my race when I am swimming and that's what keeps me going.
"If it wasn't for them I wouldn't be here right now."
Lochte, an 11-time Olympic medallist, gave last night's 200m individual medley gold medal to a fan sat at poolside.
