British 10km Olympic swimmer Keri-Anne Payne has blamed the need to take on fluids on the third lap for failing to make the podium in today's race.
Payne finished fourth and was in touch with the leaders throughout, however she said that her decision to "feed" on the third lap meant that she had to work too hard to get back into contention.
"On the third lap I needed to feed and it was a bad decision as it all went wrong," she told BBC Sport.
"I had to work pretty hard to get back to where I needed to be. I probably worked a bit too hard."
Payne won bronze in Beijing but could not follow that success with another medal in London.
