USA's five-time Olympic champion Ryan Lochte dominated this morning's 200m individual medley heats at the World Championships by finishing the fastest overall in Kazan.
With Hungary's Laszlo Cseh pulling out of the event, Lochte was given the chance to impress, and he did just that by easing to first place in 1:57.90 in his heat.
Great Britain's Daniel Wallace started strongly by leading the field at the first turn, and in the final 50m the Brit's freestyle pushed him to second overall in the heat with a time of 1:58.28.
In heat three, GB's Roberto Pavoni lagged behind in the butterfly and backstroke legs, but he moved closer to the leaders in the breaststroke 50m and managed to finish fourth with a freestyle finish in 1:59.29.
Wallace was second fastest overall, while Pavoni qualified ninth quickest.
