French number one Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has targeted a winning start to his ATP World Tour Finals campaign against Roger Federer on Sunday.
The 26-year-old also believes that his recent final loss to Federer at the Paris Masters will have little bearing on the outcome in London.
"For me it is really important to start the tournament well, because when I play with a lot of confidence I know I can do big things and do well," said Tsonga. "In sport you are never sure about the level of your opponent, so I will just try to be as ready as possible.
"The final in Paris will have a little bearing on when I meet Roger in two days' time. Every time you play someone you learn something new.
"Last week, I learnt that Roger was better than me! At Wimbledon [this year], I was better than him."
Tsonga will be making his second appearance at the end-of-season event.
