Djokovic raced into a one-set lead (6-3) over his Italian counterpart, before the Serbian claimed the second set with ease as the 26-year-old broke Fognini's serve on three occasions en route to a comfortable 6-0 win.

The world number two soon put the game to bed by coasting to a 6-2 win in the third set.

Djokovic's victory has set up a clash between him and either Tommy Robredo or Stanislas Wawrinka in the last eight of the tournament.
