Tomas Berdych bounces back to beat John Isner

Tomas Berdych comes from a set down to beat John Isner in the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open and set up a last-four meeting with Rafael Nadal.

Tomas Berdych came from a set down to beat John Isner in the Madrid Open quarter-finals this evening.

Isner claimed the only break point of the first set as Berdych struggled to take just the three break-point opportunities that came his way.

The second set was a tight affair as games went by way of serve, and it was Berdych who came the closest to going a break up, but once again he failed to take it.

A tie-break was needed to separate the two, and Berdych started strongly by breaking his American opponent, but Isner later broke back.

It was not enough for Isner, though, as Berdych sealed a crucial break of serve before taking the tie-break.

Like the second set, the decider went with serve throughout and a breaker was needed to decide who would face Rafael Nadal in the last four.

This time there was no drama as the Czech stormed 6-1 clear and then clinched the match at the second attempt.
