Juan-Martin del Potro beats Paul-Henri Mathieu in straight sets to book a place in the quarter-finals of the Rotterdam Open.

Juan-Martin del Potro has progressed into the quarter-finals of the Rotterdam Open with a straight-sets victory against Paul-Henri Mathieu.

The 25-year-old saw off his French opponent 6-2 7-6(2) to seal a spot in the next round.

Del Potro dominated the opening exchanges as he opened up a 4-1 lead and, despite a late rally from Mathieu, he served out the first set comfortably.

The second set was an evenly-contested affair, with both players giving little away off their own service games. With the score at 6-5 to Mathieu, Del Potro saved two set points before taking it to a tie-break, which he won 7-2.
