Flawless Serena Williams through to last four of US Open

Defending champion Serena Williams produces an imperious performance to inflict a double-bagel defeat on Carla Suarez Navarro in the US Open quarter-finals.

Defending champion Serena Williams did not lose a single game in defeating Carla Suarez Navarro to reach the semi-finals of the US Open in New York.

The world number one only took 19 minutes to win the opening set 6-0, dropping just five points to her opponent, who is seeded 18th for the tournament at Flushing Meadows.

Williams was equally dominant in the second set, but was forced to save two break points in the fifth game as Suarez Navarro endeavoured to finally make an impact on the scoreboard.

However, on her 25th birthday, the Spaniard could not avoid a double-bagel loss as Williams served out for victory in under an hour, winning 53 points to Suarez Navarro's 18.

The American will face Chinese Grand Slam winner Li Na in the last four.
