Maia Lumsden suffers defeat in girls' singles at US Open

British junior Maia Lumsden loses her second-round match with Anastasia Detiuc in the girls' singles at the US Open.

British junior Maia Lumsden has been defeated by Anastasia Detiuc in the second round of the girls' singles at the US Open.

The 17-year-old had booked her spot in the last 32 with a surprise win over sixth seed Anna Kalinskaya, but she couldn't follow up that success against the Moldova representative.

Detuic took the opener thanks to two breaks of serve, but Lumsden rallied in the second, taking the set on a tie-break to keep alive her hopes of reaching the third round.

However, she won just nine points during a one-sided decider, with Detuic running out a 6-4 6-7 6-0 winner on Court 14.
