Non Stanford: 'Jodie Stimpson one of triathlon favourites'

Jodie Stimpson could win a medal for England in the triathlon, according to Non Stanford.

Triathlon world champion Non Stanford has admitted that Team England's Jodie Stimpson is one of the favourites for the first medal event of the Commonwealth Games 2014.

Stanford, who is injured and thus not representing Wales in Glasgow, said that Stimpson could well win one of the first medals of the Games for England.

"Jodie Stimpson is definitely one of the favourites," she told BBC Sport. "Unfortunately there aren't any Wales or Scotland athletes in the field but hopefully one of the first medals of the games will be for England.

"Expect the swim to be really fast, likewise with the bike because they will not want to let anyone back in and the run will be very hard too. There really is nowhere to hide on this course."

The triathlon got underway at 11am on Thursday.
