Great Britain's Katie Ormerod reflects on her "really special" Olympic debut at the 2022 Games as she finishes 18th in qualifying for the women's slopestyle.

Great Britain's Katie Ormerod has hailed a "really special moment" as she made her Olympic debut at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing.

The 24-year-old snowboarder was due to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang but was forced to withdraw from the competition owing to a broken wrist and heel.

Four years later, Ormerod pulled on the GB jersey at the Games for the first time in the women's slopestyle, and despite not making the final, the Crystal Globe winner insisted that making her Olympic debut was a moment she would never forget.

"I've been waiting a really long time for this moment, to drop in and compete in an Olympic Games. I was stood at the top before my first run when I was about to drop in and I was like, 'wow, this is my moment, I've become an Olympian finally," Ormerod told teamgb.com.

"It was a really special moment and just to land that first run and get down, I've never felt a feeling like that. It was pure joy, and I'm so proud of myself for everything I've gone through, to finally get there again.

"It's been awesome being out here. You definitely know you're at the Olympics - the Olympic vibe is high. To finally drop in and know I'm an Olympian now. I've been waiting so long - literally years, to say that."

Ormerod finished 18th in slopestyle qualifying with a best score of 47.38 on her first run, as the top 12 athletes - led by New Zealand's Zoi Sadowski-Synnott with 86.75 - advanced to the final.
