Rowan Cheshire to spend night in hospital following concussion

Great Britain skier Rowan Cheshire suffers a concussion during half-pipe training today and is expected to spend the night in hospital.

Great Britain skier Rowan Cheshire has suffered a concussion during the Olympic half-pipe training in Sochi and will spend the night in hospital.

She reportedly remained unconscious for several minutes following the incident earlier today and left the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park on a stretcher.

A statement from Team GB said: "Team GB half-pipe skier Rowan Cheshire fell during half-pipe training this evening.

"She was attended to by the medical team at the half-pipe then taken to the polyclinic in the Mountain Village for further assessment.

"After examination by Team GB medical personnel it is confirmed that she has a concussion and, as a precaution, will stay at a local hospital overnight for further evaluation. She will be evaluated further during the coming days before a determination is made about her fitness to compete."

The 18-year-old, who claimed her first major victory at a World Cup event in Canada this season, is ranked seventh in World Cup standings and is the top-ranked woman on the British half-pipe team.
