Elise Christie disqualified, out of 1500m short track

Elise Christie is disqualified from today's 1500m short track speed skating competition at the Sochi Olympics.

Elise Christie has been disqualified from today's 1500m short track speed skating heats at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

The 23-year-old appeared to be all set to move into the semi-finals of the event, when with two laps to go, she moved from fourth to second, before sneaking into first place at the expense of Italy's Arianna Fontana.

However, Christie was then penalised and relegated to last place, meaning she will not take her place in the semi-finals.

The official reason given for the disqualification was that Christie caused an infringement at the finish line.
