British violinist Vanessa Mae has said that competing in the Winter Olympics is a 'dream come true' for her.
The 35-year-old will compete in alpine skiing for Thailand under the name Vanessa Vanakorn as her father is from the Asian country.
"It is important that you have a dream," she told the Daily Mail.
"I am here and this is the fulfilment of a second dream following my dream to be a successful musician. However, I don't believe in happiness without sadness.
"For most people to start something like this, this late in life, it is too late. But the spirit of the Olympics is such that they realise the girls at the back, like me, are here to participate."
Mae has been estranged from her mother for over 10 years.
