Arsenal team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Aston Villa

Sports Mole rounds up all of Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

Arsenal can go back to the top of the Premier League table - for at least a couple of hours - when they take on Aston Villa in the West Midlands on Saturday lunchtime.

Mikel Arteta's team have been knocked off top spot courtesy of a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday, where Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Erling Braut Haaland all struck for the reigning champions.

Arsenal are only behind Man City on goal difference with a game in hand, and with the Citizens not in action until their clash with Nottingham Forest at 3pm on Saturday, Arteta's side can quickly regain top spot should they avoid a fifth successive game without a win.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their reunion with Unai Emery, whose Aston Villa side occupy 11th place in the rankings.

Thomas Partey

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: February 18 (vs. Aston Villa)

Thomas Partey was a late absentee from the squad to face Man City due to a tight muscle, allowing Jorginho to make his first start for the club. Arsenal affirmed that Partey's absence was merely precautionary, but the tight turnaround means that the Ghanaian midfielder is still a major doubt for the trip to Villa.

Gabriel Jesus

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: March 4 (vs. Bournemouth)

Gabriel Jesus is still on the long road to recovery from knee surgery, and despite recently hinting that he could be ready at the start of March, Arteta has refused to put a timeframe on his recovery.

Mohamed Elneny

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Experienced midfielder Mohamed Elneny recently went under the knife to address a knee injury, and the Egyptian is expected to miss the remainder of the campaign.

Emile Smith Rowe

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: February 18 (vs. Aston Villa)

Emile Smith Rowe has now missed Arsenal's last four games in all tournaments with a thigh injury, but Arteta has confirmed that the Englishman should make his return to the squad at Villa Park.
