Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford says that Everton should be targeting a place in the top six of the Premier League table this season.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has backed Everton to improve on their eighth-place finish in the Premier League last season.

A poor start to the campaign left the Toffees playing catch-up in the race for a spot in Europe, but the Merseyside club have acted this summer by bringing in Marco Silva as head coach.

Richarlison and Lucas Digne have also arrived from Watford and Barcelona respectively, and Pickford says that the club are continuing to move in the right direction.

The England international is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "I think it is a massive club and the club is only going in the right direction.

"We want to do better. We finished eighth last season and so we want to get better than seventh, get into the top six. The Premier League is a hard league and it is hard to get a win in any game, but we want to please the fans and make the fans happy and the way to do that is win games."

Everton begin the new campaign with a trip to Molineux to face newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers.
