Louis van Gaal: 'Luke Shaw to return next season'

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal rules 20-year-old left-back Luke Shaw out of the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace next weekend.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has admitted that the FA Cup final will come too soon for Luke Shaw.

The left-back has been on the sidelines since suffering a double fracture of his leg during the Champions League group match against Dutch side PSV Eindhoven last September.

Shaw has stepped up his recovery in recent weeks, but Van Gaal has conceded that the 20-year-old will not be fit for the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace next weekend.

"I have always said to him that he can play in the final to keep his motivation high, but now I cannot say that anymore because we are in the final [next weekend]," Van Gaal told MUTV.

"It is a pity because he cannot reach that level to play. He needs more time to play. His motivation is still high and I have to give compliments to him because it is not easy to be away for such a long time. He is coming back, but he is coming back next season."

Man United will end their Premier League season at home to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
