Robin van Persie 'will leave' if Manchester United do not invest in players

Ronald de Boer believes that Robin van Persie will leave Manchester United if the club fail to invest in new, up-and-coming players.

Former Netherlands international Ronald de Boer believes that Robin van Persie will leave Manchester United if the club fail to invest in young talent this summer.

The Dutchman has been linked with an Old Trafford exit due to reports that he is not enjoying the style of play under manager David Moyes.

The Scotsman came to Old Trafford last summer following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, who brought Van Persie to United from Arsenal in 2012.

"It's very disappointing for a player of his quality," the Manchester Evening News quotes De Boer as saying. "I don't think he's enjoying the football United are playing.

"He's a team player but he likes to play beautiful football and that isn't the case at the moment. Man United need to refresh their squad. Some of their players have had fantastic careers but it's time to move over and let some youngsters come through.

"Robin feels that, if this is happening, he will of course stay, but if there's no investment in new, young, great players from other clubs, then he will move."

Reports in Italy have claimed this week that United's Premier League rivals Chelsea could be interested in the forward.
