Denver Broncos sign safety TJ Ward

The Denver Broncos sign former Cleveland Browns strong safety TJ Ward as they look to bolster their secondary.

The Denver Broncos have signed former Cleveland Browns strong safety TJ Ward in an effort to strengthen their secondary.

Ward enjoyed the best season of his career in 2013, recording 112 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and two interceptions despite the Browns finishing bottom of the AFC North.

The 27-year-old was named in the Pro Bowl as a result of his performances, while he also earned second-team All-Pro honours from the Associated Press.

He was chosen by the Browns in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft, being put straight into the starting team in his rookie year before missing 10 games over the next two seasons.

Ward made headlines last season when he put in a low tackle on New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, causing him knee ligament damage that ultimately ended his season.

He now joins a Broncos team looking to go one better than they managed last season, when they were beaten in the Super Bowl by the Seattle Seahawks.
