Willie Young: 'I need to play smarter football'

Detroit Lions defensive end Willie Young admits that he needs to play "smarter" football after a late penalty almost cost his side last week.

Detroit Lions defensive end Willie Young has admitted that he needs to be "smarter" when rushing the quarterback.

Young was penalised last week late in the game for a hit on Chicago Bears quarterback Josh McCown when Marc Trestman's side were attempting to tie the match with a two-point conversion.

However, the Lions managed to hold and secure the victory at Soldier Field much to the relief of the 28-year-old.

Young told the MMQB.com: "First thing that came to my mind was this thing could have been over, been done with, but we have to play one more snap. I need to be smarter than that."

The Lions face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
