Former Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed will sign a three-year contract with the Houston Texans after agreeing terms with the organisation.

Ed Reed has agreed to a three-year contract with the Houston Texans following talks with the team last week.

The safety, who was a free agent after playing the final year of his contract with the Baltimore Ravens, is set to earn up to $15m (£9.9m) through the deal.

Texans owner Bob McNair told NFL.com: "We play all of the top quarterbacks in the league, and we needed a free safety back there that had some outstanding ball skills."

The 34-year-old had spent 11 years with the Ravens, and had previously stated that he would be interested in re-signing with the Super Bowl champions.

Reed make 49 tackles and four interceptions during the 2012 campaign.
