Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Fran Tarkenton has stated that he would love his old side to pick up college star Johnny Manziel when the NFL Draft rolls around in the spring.
On Wednesday, Manziel announced his decision to declare for the Draft, sacrificing his option of another year with the Texas A&M Aggies.
Hall of Famer Tarkenton - who had two spells with the Vikings in the '60s and '70s - admitted that Manziel could be just what the team needs to move forward.
Via his personal Twitter account, Tarkenton said: "Would love to see Johnny Manziel in a @Vikings uniform. This guy is the real deal. He will be a big time player on Sundays. #NFL @jmanziel2.
"#Manziel is a football savant. You just can't teach what he does."
The Vikings finished the campaign with a 5-10-1 record in the NFC North and will have eighth pick in the Draft.
However, the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders are all supposedly in the hunt for a new signal-caller, and all pick before Minnesota, meaning Manziel may well have already gone elsewhere.
