Philadelphia Eagles confirm six-year Byron Maxwell deal

The Philadelphia Eagles announce that they have signed cornerback Byron Maxwell on a six-year contract worth up to £41.8m.

The Philadelphia Eagles have confirmed that they have signed cornerback Byron Maxwell.

The 27-year-old was allowed to hit the market by the Seattle Seahawks due to the high salary he would command at the club, who already spent big to retain the services of Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor in their secondary.

Maxwell had a strong market, with several clubs vying for his signature, but the Eagles won the race by offering the cornerback a six-year deal worth $63m (£41.8m), with $25m (£16.6m) guaranteed.

Maxwell confirmed that he would be joining the NFC East side, telling ESPN: "I'm going to Philly."

The cornerback recorded 82 tackles and six interceptions in his four years with the Seahawks.
