San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy has admitted that the scouting combine is an important part in the recruitment process, although it is not the only important aspect.

McCoy said that meeting the players who the club had seen in videos was good to see whether they would fit in, but the Chargers would not decide to sign a player from the combine interviews alone.

"It's great to come out, and it's just part of the evaluation process," he told the club's official website. "You are really taking the next step and looking at players, talking to them in the individual meetings for 15 minutes at night, or the coaches over in the train station sitting down to get to know the players - it's just part of the process.

"It's really just getting to know the person better. It's the next step in the process. You've watched some film at this point, not on everybody but on some of the guys, and really just get to know him as a person and not just as a player.
"

The Chargers, who finished 10-8 for the season, reached the second round of the playoffs in 2013.
