The San Francisco 49ers have expressed their disappointment at the arrest of defensive end Aldon Smith after he allegedly claimed to be in possession of a bomb at an airport.
Smith was arrested and charged on Sunday following the incident at Los Angeles International airport, and he could face up to one year in prison because of the false claim.
49ers general manager Trent Baalke was unable to go into much detail regarding the incident due to the ongoing legal proceedings, but he did admit that the team was "disappointed" by the news.
"We are disappointed to learn of the incident today involving Aldon Smith. As this is a pending legal matter and we are still gathering the pertinent facts, we will have no further comment," Baalke said in a statement.
Smith is also currently facing charges of three felony counts of illegal possession of an assault weapon and driving under the influence from two separate incidents over the last two years.
