San Francisco 49ers' doctor passes away

The medical director and team physician of the San Francisco 49ers has passed away.

Daniel Garza died in his home in the San Francisco Bay Area on Tuesday night, but the cause of his death has yet to be made public.

Garza's death was announced on Wednesday by Stanford University, where he worked as assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery and emergency medicine.

Garza, whose primary research dealt with the prevention of traumatic brain injury in athletes, conducted extensive studies on the risk of concussions on players.
