San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has insisted that there is no divide between the club and head coach Jim Harbaugh over a new deal with the franchise.
Talks between the 49ers and the 50-year-old have been put on hold, but York and Harbaugh are adamant that the reason is that the head coach does not want to set a precedent at the club.
"There's not some crazy divide of where we are," York told CSNBayArea.com. "When we talked about a deal, Jim very clearly said, 'I don't want to do a deal too early because as a leader of the team, I don't want to set that precedent.'
"When we talked about the contract we offered, it wasn't Jim demanding to be the highest-paid coach. It was him saying, 'I don't think now is the right time because it sets the wrong precedent.'"
The 49ers have reached the NFC championship game in the past three seasons under Harbaugh.
