The 49ers started well and went ahead when Colin Kaepernick drove his team downfield, drifted out to his right in the redzone to extend a play and fired to the scrambling Michael Crabtree to notch his first receiving touchdown of the year.
San Francisco extended their advantage after a drive was killed by the Giants and Phil Dawson was left with a 49-yard field goal attempt that he fired through the posts.
Kaepernick was showing good skill with his arm and that continued as his side went 17 points ahead when he found Vernon Davis over the middle of the field and he ran in for a 52-yard score.
However, just before the break the Buccaneers came back at the 49ers and got on the board as Mike Glennon found Vincent Jackson in the endzone for an 11-yard touchdown.
After the break, the 49ers edged further ahead through the boot of Dawson from 43 yards out. However, in the fourth quarter the Buccaneers came back into the contest as Glennon faked the handoff to Bobby Rainey and fired deep into the endzone for tight end Tim Wright for a 24-yard score.
San Francisco put themselves into a nine-point lead as Kaepernick engineered another scoring drive, but they could not get the ball in the endzone and Dawson kicked another three pointer.
However, they did get a touchdown when the Buccaneers committed a catastrophic error on the ensuing kickoff, as Page fumbled the ball and allowed Kendall Hunter to run in for the two-yard score. Dawson later iced the game to hand the 49ers the win.
