Team England athlete Rachael Bamford has vowed to continue running steeplechase after her seventh-place finish in the women's 3,000m final at the Commonwealth Games tonight.
The 24-year-old only took up steeplechase in May but pushed herself towards the middle of the pack tonight to finish ahead of teammate Philippa Woolven with a personal-best time of 9:45.51.
"[I'm] really really pleased," Bamford told Sports Mole after the race. "I knew I was in good shape in the end. I think that was [only] my fifth 3k steeplechase race."
Bamford added that she is keen to pursue a career in 1,500m but thinks that a "strong field" in that event means that her chances of success at majors will be "more realistic" with steeplechase.
"I want to be a 1,500m runner but I think I'll carry on training like that and then still do some barriers, and then every selection period I'll sort of try for both. But I'll know if I'm not in a 1,500m shape. It's such a strong field, the girls."
Kenya took all three spots on the podium at the event tonight in Glasgow.
