Commonwealth Games chief David Grevemberg "disappointed" by Mo Farah withdrawal

Mo Farah's withdrawal through illness is disappointing for the Commonwealth Games, according to chief executive David Grevemberg.

Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg has admitted that is is a huge disappointment for the competition that Mo Farah has withdrawn through illness.

Grevemberg said that although it would be sad not to see one of the world's best middle-distance runners in action there were still plenty of top-level athletes competing in Scotland.

"There's no question that we're disappointed," Grevemberg told reporters. "Certainly there'll be some disappointed people but there's plenty of great athletes that are coming and are here.

"We're looking forward to welcoming people to some great competition over the next few days and when the athletics kicks off on Sunday."

Farah won gold in both the 5,000 and 10,000 metres at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
