Usain Bolt wins third 200m gold at Olympic Games

Jamaica's Usain Bolt runs 19.78s to win gold in the men's 200m final at the Olympic Games.

Jamaica's Usain Bolt has powered to his third 200m gold medal at the Olympic Games in a time of 19.78s.

Days after winning the 100m, Bolt was expected to decimate his rivals in the showcase event on Thursday evening and he did not disappoint as he led from start to finish.

The wet conditions put paid to any attempt to break his own world record but he finished well clear of Canada's Andre de Grasse, who claimed silver in 20.02s.

However, there was heartbreak for Great Britain's Adam Gemili who missed out on bronze by three thousandths of a second to France's Christophe Lemaitre.

Both athletes clocked 20.12s but Lemaitre was given the nod to edge out the 22-year-old by the narrowest of margins.
