Alistair Brownlee: "I'm the best triathlete in the world"

Alistair Brownlee believes that he is the best triathlete in the world, as he returns from injury to race in the World Series this weekend.

Olympic gold medallist Alistair Brownlee has claimed that he is the best all-round triathlete ahead of his return to the ITU World Series in Cape Town this weekend.

The 27-year-old won gold at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2014 Commonwealth Games and has been the world champion three times in his career.

However, he has not finished inside the top three at the World Championships since his last title in 2011, due to a number of injury problems.

"I'd definitely like to think I'm the best triathlete in the world - all round, through the three sports on a day," Brownlee told BBC Sport.

"If it came down to a run, I probably haven't run quite as well as I did in 2012, but if I repeated that performance it would still be the fastest run off any bike on any given day."

Alistair's brother Jonathan Brownlee claimed gold in the first two events of the World Series in Auckland and the Gold Coast.
