Oscar Pistorius has qualified for the 400m semi-finals after finishing second in his heat inside the Olympic Stadium.
The South African double amputee looked assured on the track as he improved in the second half of the race to comfortably confirm qualification.
Luguelin Santos of the Dominican Republic, who is expected to be a candidate for a medal, was able to ease off in the final 200m to win the race ahead of Pistorius and Maksim Dyldin.
The 400m semi-finals take place on Sunday.
