New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony has conceded that he believed LaMarcus Aldridge would sign for the franchise in free agency earlier this summer.
Aldridge eventually signed with the San Antonio Spurs, and Anthony has revealed that he was left disappointed with the pitch that the Knicks gave him.
"I didn't know that. When he told me that, I didn't know that. I took my headband and threw it across... I honestly didn't know that," Anthony said of the Knicks telling Aldridge he would play at centre, according to the New York Daily News.
"I think we could have gotten LaMarcus. I believe, the conversations me and him had, it was a big chance that he was going to end up in New York."
Anthony was visibly playful and smiling when recalling the headband toss, but conceded that he thought that there was a genuine chance the pair would be teammates next season.
