New York Knicks star JR Smith is ineligible for trade until January 15, but the franchise will reportedly consider it.

The 28-year-old has underperformed this season after winning the Sixth Man of the Year award last year and receiving a new contract.

Under the new collective bargaining agreement, Smith is not available for trade until next month but the Knicks will explore the option, according to the New York Post.

Recent speculation has suggested that the Knicks have been working on a deal to sign Toronto Raptors star Kyle Lowry.
