Police have confirmed that a 61-year-old man, believed to be Ray Hatton, was arrested and cautioned on Thursday after a heated row with Ricky Hatton.
Hatton has only recently announced his comeback to boxing.
It is thought that he and his father were involved in an argument outside a Manchester gym.
The police were then called to assist in the situation after the boxer was forced to defend himself from attack.
A police statement read: "Shortly before 11.45am on Thursday, police received reports of a fight between two men outside a health and fitness club.
"A 33-year-old man was assaulted by a 61-year-old man, who was arrested for common assault and subsequently given a police caution.
"The 33-year-old man was not injured in the incident."
The BBC have since confirmed that it was Hatton and his father who were involved.
