Michael Clarke: 'Mitchell Starc responding well to treatment'

Australia captain Michael Clarke claims that Mitchell Starc is confident of being fit for the second Ashes Test at Lord's.

Australia captain Michael Clarke has claimed that Mitchell Starc is winning his battle to be fit for the second Ashes Test at Lord's.

Starc was forced to battle an ankle injury while bowling in the second innings of the 169-run loss to England in Cardiff, but Clarke believes that the left-arm seamer has a good chance of proving his fitness in time to retain his spot as Australia look to level the series.

"Spending a bit of time with the Australian physio, he's confident that, although it's a short turnaround before the second test, there's been a lot of positives that have come out of the last couple of days since he was cortisoned, and things are going really well there," the Australian skipper told Triple M.

"Starcy obviously had some ankle pain and had an injection to bowl in the second innings, but the positive again was the fact he was able to bowl and do what was needed for the team."

Despite picking up the injury, Starc still managed to finish the match with figures of 7-174.
