James Anderson to miss fifth Ashes Test

England captain Alastair Cook confirms that James Anderson is not fit enough to take part in the fifth Ashes Test at The Oval.

England captain Alastair Cook has confirmed that James Anderson will not be fit for the fifth Ashes Test at The Oval.

The bowler missed the team's series-clinching victory at Trent Bridge with a side strain.

Despite Anderson closing in on a return to action, the 33-year-old will again be unavailable to face Australia.

"Unfortunately Jimmy's not going to make," Cook told reporters. "He's gutted. He's about a week away from being fully fit. Jimmy's not fit."

Cook is due to name the same side that defeated the Aussies at Trent Bridge for their clash at The Oval.
