Mark Wood aims to continue "upward trend" after Ashes summer

England bowler Mark Wood says that he is aiming to build on a successful debut Ashes campaign.

England bowler Mark Wood has promised that he will work hard to continue improving after a successful debut summer in Test cricket.

The Durham right-armer has played in five of the six summer Tests against New Zealand and Australia so far, and took the final wicket as England regained The Ashes from the Aussies last week.

He told The Guardian: "I don't think I've bowled well throughout a Test yet and I haven't taken a big five-wicket haul like the other lads. I think I have a lot more to give and I'm desperate to do well and improve.

"A year ago I was in a bad place in terms of injury and I never thought I would be where I am now. Hopefully I can continue on that upward trend."

Wood is expected to keep his place when the fifth Ashes Test at The Oval starts next week.
