Steven Finn will replace Mark Wood in England's 13-man squad for the fourth and final Test against South Africa at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old was called up as cover for the seamer in the third Test, which England won by 239 runs on Monday.
Wood did not play in the contest at The Oval due to a sore heel, and after undergoing further scans he has been left out of the final Test, which gets under way on Friday.
Debutants Toby Roland-Jones and Tom Westley keep their places in Joe Root's team after taking eight wickets and hitting a knock of 59 respectively in the third Test.
England currently lead the series 2-1.
