England one-day captain Eoin Morgan: 'No return for Kevin Pietersen'

Eoin Morgan says that Kevin Pietersen will not be returning to the England one-day fold, despite the batsman stating that the skipper would "love" to have him back.

England one-day captain Eoin Morgan has rejected speculation that Kevin Pietersen could return to the international fold.

The batsman was controversially dropped last February following England's disastrous Ashes campaign in Australia over the winter.

This week during a TV interview, Pietersen claimed that Morgan, who replaced Alastair Cook as one-day captain last month, would "love" to have him back in the side.

However, the Irishman has cleared up speculation by telling reporters: "I think this is a good opportunity to clear things up given that Kevin has a lot of opportunity to talk in the media and get his point of view out there.

"I'm very happy with the group of players I have, I think this is the best group of players we have to drive the England team forward over the next two months in particular.

"Kevin's situation hasn't changed over the last year. It's been reiterated over months and days. It was reiterated before Christmas by the chairman of selectors and I'm reiterating it again just to clear it up. Thank you."

England are currently preparing for their tri-series against Australia and India prior to the World Cup next month.
