Eoin Morgan rues wasteful England performance

Eoin Morgan reflects on how England lost the opening one-day international against Australia.

England captain Eoin Morgan has revealed his disappointment after his side lost the opening one-day international against Australia at the Ageas Bowl.

Matthew Wade's unbeaten 71 carried the tourists to a 59-run win after they had posted a target of 306.

"I think [we lost the game] in the 10 or 15 overs in the middle of the chase where Australia bowled pretty well. I thought if we had come out of that period unscathed we should have chased it down quite easily," Morgan told Sky Sports News.

"We got off to a fantastic start. Alex Hales and Jason Roy set the tone early, and when we get off to a start like that we should be chasing down 305. Australia defended well, but we're a better side than that.

"We'll look back at our plans and our execution of them and see how they look, and try to improve them for Lord's."

The second game in the one-day international series takes place at Lord's on Saturday.
