India overcame the loss of two early wickets to fight back against Australia in the morning session on day three of the third Test in Melbourne.
The tourists got off to a nightmare start when Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed with just the second ball, as wicketkeeper Brad Haddin produced a stunning catch off the bowling of Ryan Harris.
Virat Kohli replaced Pujara at the crease and began to make runs at a good rate, building a decent partnership with Murali Vijay before the latter was dismissed by Shane Watson to leave India 147-3.
Ajinkya Rahane upped the run rate with some fine batting alongside Kohli, who reached his half-century from 86 balls at the end of the 63rd over.
Rahane ended the session just seven runs short of his own 50, but India still trail by 306 at the break, having gone in at 224-3.
